The Seniors in Cogir’s Retirement Homes Share Over 3,000 Greeting Cards with Young People Throughout the Province of Quebec
Wanting to mark Earth Day, the seniors of Cogir’s retirement homes in the province of Quebec have been asked to write down their fondest wish for the planet on seed-filled greeting cards
These cards have been distributed in schools all over the province. The seniors wishing to do so could also record a brief video addressed to these young people.
“The generations that precede us represent a huge reservoir of knowledge and wisdom. Our seniors love to interact with young people. We were therefore looking for a fun way to create such interaction under the current circumstances. Earth Day gave us the perfect opportunity. The residents took great pleasure in extending their greetings and were quite creative,” states Ève Lusignan-Legrand, Cogir Real Estate’s Entertainment Project Development and Management Coordinator.
“We will together take the time to read every card in the environment committee,” says a teacher in charge of such a group in her school. “We are eager to distribute them from our environment kiosk during Earth Day,” adds a youth.
Each of these cards, which can be placed in the ground, contains fine herb seeds that the young people can plant. They will then be able to monitor their growth over the coming weeks. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, all our teams have been working hard to reinvent the activities carried out in the residences. We always marvel at such great and beautiful creativity,” declares Yves Duguay, Cogir Real Estate’s Vice President Operations, Private Retirement Homes Division.
Let us now hope that they will not only produce some delicious fine herbs, but that they will also plant a seed from which many other little gestures will spring, bringing sweetness to our planet and ensuring a brighter future.
